Is Online Counselling Right for Me?
Online counselling can offer a flexible and comfortable way to access support from your own space. Many people find that meeting online allows them to speak openly and fit counselling more easily into the rhythm of daily life.
When Online Counselling Works Well
Online counselling can work well if you:
have access to a private, quiet space where you can speak freely
have a stable internet connection and are comfortable using video technology
are looking for support with concerns such as stress, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or personal reflection and growth
feel comfortable engaging in conversation and reflection through a screen
Many people find that meeting from a familiar environment can help them feel more relaxed and able to focus on the work we are doing together.
When Online Counselling May Not Be the Best Fit
Online counselling is not appropriate for crisis or emergency situations.
If you are experiencing immediate distress, thoughts of harming yourself or others, or require urgent mental health care, in-person support or local emergency or crisis services are the most appropriate support.
If You Are Unsure
It is completely normal to feel uncertain about whether counselling, or online counselling in particular, is the right step.
A consultation can be a helpful way to ask questions and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
A Note About Location
Online counselling allows us to meet from wherever you are. I offer virtual sessions to individuals in many locations.
Because regulations for counselling vary by region, services may not be available in places where counselling or psychotherapy is restricted to locally licensed providers. If you are located outside British Columbia, we can briefly confirm whether online sessions are appropriate based on your location.
